Conductor Education Symposium

July 10-12, 2026

“Drs. Capaldo and McMurray brought a supportive, thoughtful approach that made the environment feel safe and constructive. I especially appreciated the generous amount of podium time, which gave me the chance to apply ideas in real time and reflect meaningfully on my development.”

“An amazing ensemble to practice with. Such an honour and inspiration. Not all conducting symposiums have such amazing musicians to practice their craft.”

“The amount of podium time each conductor received was incredible, and having a high-quality, responsive ensemble like the Naden Band to conduct in a wonderful hall like The Farquhar makes for a truly phenomenal artistic/educational experience.”

“The UVic Conductor Education Symposium was an outstanding experience. It was incredibly well-organized from start to finish, which allowed participants to focus fully on learning and growing. The focus on artist-conductor development for working teachers, community band leaders, and non-teachers was well-rounded and appreciated. The feedback provided was both insightful and encouraging. Overall, it was an enriching and inspiring weekend.”

“Overall, it was a very well-run, well-structured, artistically inspiring, and thoroughly enjoyable symposium!”

“The instruction from both Dr. Capaldo and Dr. McMurray was absolutely stellar – kind and patient, full of useful and practical guidance, but also inspiring and challenging.”
